How to be a great host

How to be a great host

We put together some steps every host can follow to prevent renting your space from becoming more of a hassle than a reward.

Determine your goals

Are you renting your space to earn money? For creative inspiration? To help create amazing photos or to share a creative experience? Then it’s important to understand how renting your space aligns with these goals.

Understanding your role

If you are renting a space for photographers, amateur and professional alike its important to try and provide a welcoming but professional location for photo, music or even YouTube videos to be shot.

Video or professional photographers may require more equipment or people being brought into you photo space, if you feel this will make you uncomfortable or be a troublesome to your location it is important to make this clear when listing your location.

It is a good idea to try and keep communication as open and transparent as possible when communicating with renting photographers. If you have any requirements, appointments or a specific time that you would like the shoot to wrapped up by, make this clear to the photographer well before the date of the shoot.

Make your guests feel at home. Everyone knows it can be daunting welcoming strangers into your personal space, but we are all here for the creative process. If you would like to be present throughout the shoot, make sure to tell the photographer that you would like to do so.

Offering a drink, tea or coffee can make the whole shoot more relaxing for everyone. It is also a great idea to point out any bath or change rooms in case of emergencies or wardrobe changes.

I enjoyed being a host. At first I wasn’t sure about the process, but we ended up having a great little time
